SCHOOL ANTHOLOGIES OF THE EMPIRE AND THE REPUBLIC

In this article, a list of works constituting the collection of school anthologies used in Colégio Pedro II between the Empire and the Republic is presented; and the discursive composition of two representative works of these historical periods is discussed, in order to understand their discursive projects around the representations of the national language: Iris Classico (1873) and Autores Contemporaneos (1917). The research was developed under the focus of the dialogy of Bakhtin's speech genres and the Circle. The result shows that the set of titles adopted and, particularly, the compositions of the collections of excerpts from these works reflect and refract the nationalist tendency of their respective spatio-temporal orientations: in the Empire anthology, predominance of Portuguese excerpts; and in the anthology of the First Republic, the rise of Brazilian fragments. The discursive projects around the representations of the national
language, constituting each work, proved to be homogeneous and centralizing, based on the finished literary language.
