Abstract

This article examines Rotimi Fani-Kayode's work, Dan Mask (1989), to develop an investigative path into the political, cultural, and spiritual significance of the use of the Dan mask, as well as the performative character that defines the entire manifestation of the Ge spirit. The research deepens the understanding of the ritualistic intentionality behind the various purposes of the mask in Dan culture and the gender implications that permeate its functionality.
