Abstract

ABSTRACT: The present research aims to analyze, from the perspective of the Dialogic Analysis of Discourse, the discursive positioning adopted by the channel Portal Catve on the social network Instagram, in the video report entitled "The drama in the streets of Cascavel: Traffic and (Catve Portal, 2025). The research seeks to identify linguistic-discursive strategies that reveal possible forms of media bias in the construction of information, evaluating their impacts on the social perception of facts. The report, released in January 2025, addresses the growth of the street population in the city of Cascavel (PR), raising the following question: to what extent does media bias interfere with the critical understanding of reality by society? It is justified to analyze the proliferation of disinformation, especially in social networks, which compromise access to qualified information and threaten the democratic debate. The methodological approach is anchored in Applied Linguistics, with a qualitative-interpretative approach (Bortoni-Ricardo, 2008a) and descriptive character. The theoretical foundation is based on the studies of the Bakhtin Circle (2003[1979]; Bakhtin/Volochínov, 2014[1929]) and the assumptions of multiliteracies (Kleiman, 2008; Rojo, 2009; Rojo; Moura, 2012). The results indicate that the media statement reinforces social stigmas by associating the population in vulnerability to crime and the failure of public policies, reaffirming an exclusionary and conservative ideology. Video reporting acts as a space for reiteration of hegemonic meanings, influencing the formation of opinions and contributing to the naturalization of processes of marginalization. Such evidence reinforces the urgency of a critical reading on the discursive role of media in today’s society.
